To follow-up on my post from Wednesday about my back . . .

Thursday when I woke up, I was in even worse pain. It literally took me about 15 minutes to get myself out of bed into a standing position.

K came home early from work and took me to Urgent Care (I really need to figure out a PCP on my insurance - I've only worked at my "new" job for 18 months now . . .) and the wait was 3-4 hours to see a doctor. We got in after waiting about 2 hours, but we spent a total of five hours there. That might make sense.

The doctor did all sorts of neurological tests to make sure there wasn't anything more severe happening (I wasn't expecting anything that bad, and even said that, but the doctor said he always wants to make sure because you never know, plus the fact that my pain symptoms were backwards to what is normally experienced.) But ultimately I just have a really bad strained back.

At the end of the doctor's visit, he told me that he was going to write me a few prescriptions and give me a shot to help ease some of the pain that I was feeling (I rated the pain a 7 when it was flaring up - I tried not to be over dramatic and was comparing the pain to the last time I had a cellulitis flair up in my toes - you know the day that I crawled to the bathroom because I couldn't stand or walk? Slightly less than that.) When the nurse came back in I asked where the shot was going to go - fully expecting it to go into my butt because that was the kind of day I was having.

The shot went into my butt. So glad K was there to witness that bit.

So after spending five hours total at Urgent Care, we left. Picked up three prescriptions - a pain killer (yay narcotics!), a muscle relaxer and anti-inflammatory.

Obviously I'm missing my second day of work now (it's starting to feel like I'll never save PTO up like I did at the other job - but then again, I'm not earning it as fast as I was there either.) Pain wise, I feel a little better, but things still hurt like crazy. It's just frustrating because it hurts to sit or stand or lay down or move.

The meds yesterday really did a number on me - let's just say that the side effects were pretty spot on. I'm hoping that they won't be so bad today.

My back goes out about twice a year. I feel your pain.
